A Nazi named Solomon

I emerged from the crawlspace that led to the roof with my companion. There was already a slight tension in the air and we had not even begun to talk. Besides the differences in basic personality, there was another key thing that created an awkward divide between us. He was a Nazi. And his name, ironically, was Solomon.

He was your stereotypical aryan- golden hair, sky-blue eyes. Additionally, he was tall and well built. We were traveling along rooftops, to where I don't know. A light rain began to fall- so light that it could hardly be called rain. The clouds were backlit by a sun that sat low on the horizon.

"I want to enjoy peace," I said, finally breaking the tension and addressing the elephant in the room.

"What peace?" he responded, "There is no peace in the world. There is war and strife. What peace?"

I was taken aback by his question. I was not naive. I was well aware of the state of the world.

"Succumbing to war is not the same as acknowledging war," I said, "I want to be an agent of peace rather than chaos."

He was silent as we continued walking. I noticed his military uniform- perfectly pressed, cleaned, and fitted. His calf-high, black army boots cracked roof tiles with every step.

He is bred for war, I thought. There is no reaching him.

The Mountain Lion

Jenn and I were camping with Abbey in the mountains. There were only a few other campgrounds around. We were setting up our campsite amongst the evergreens and Abbey started getting restless. I decided to take her for a run to see if she would calm down.

We ran along the trail, going further and further up the mountain. As we turned a blind corner, we saw a mountain lion. Abbey immediately tore after it, and I sensed what was about to happen. I ran after Abbey, but she had already engaged in combat with the lion. I knew she didn't stand a chance.

I ran to them as fast as I could, and tore the head off of the mountain lion's shoulders, but I was too late. Abbey was already in pieces, and I was devastated. I tried putting her back together, in hopes that the pieces would become a whole again, and somehow come back to life. My attempts were fruitless.

Dirty Rat

I was eating something. Some unidentifiable tasty matter. I noticed a rat approaching me. The rat was dirty, ugly, and definitely starving. It communicated to me how hungry it was, and asked for some of what I was eating. I gave it some of my meal. The rat told me how gross it was and asked if I had anything else. I was pretty put off.

The Darkness

I was sitting in my living room late at night. The only light was the eerie glow from the computer screen casting an unnatural light in the room. I noticed something in the shadows by the front door. I couldn't see it, but I knew it was there. It was a bad thing, and it meant me harm. I tried to stand to prepare myself for whatever might emerge from the darkness, but I immediately collapsed to the floor, unable to control my body. I looked into the darkness, aware that the bad thing was still there, and tried to yell at it. Yet, what proceeded from deep within me was an animal-like growl and movements that were animal-like as well, and out of my control. I again collapsed, and tried to crawl back to my bedroom, knowing that if I could get to my bed and under my covers, I would be safe. All I could do was push myself up with my arms and try drag my lifeless legs behind me, inches at a time, hoping that I could make it to my room in time.

Beautiful Children

I was walking down a paved path through some kind of park in California. There were oak trees spotting the landscape and small ponds here and there. I noticed a lot of wildlife as well: mountain lions with cubs; rabbits; raccoons; and other small woodland creatures. Also in the park were small groups of children. They were all quite young and extremely beautiful. They had clean "church clothes" and could have come out of some GAP kids advertisement. I was concerned for their safety, being that there were wild animals around and seemingly no adults.
As I walked further, I noticed some old abandoned barns. They were extremely dilapidated and spooky as hell, but the children were playing in and around them.
I continued walking and noticed a group of parents further up the trail. They were looking at me and I could tell from their expressions that they were wary of my presence. They didn't exactly like me and I could feel it. I didn't know how to tell them that I meant them and their children no harm, and that they should really be worrying about the mountain lions that are creeping up behind their kids.

The Wolf

I was hunting in the woods without a weapon. There was snow on the trail that I was following. I noticed some rustling to my right and saw an enormous moose. The moose was quite perturbed that I had shown up in his woods, and began to chase me.

I ran with all I had, flying past trees and rocks. As I looked behind me, the moose had become covered in snow, yet still charged. I eventually lost it, but did not slow down. At this point, I was running on all fours just as fast and as naturally as on two legs. I turned a corner on the trail and came face to face with a wolf who was also displeased by my presence. Knowing I could neither outrun nor outmaneuver the wolf, I braced myself to fight it. It lunged at me and I thrust my right hand into its mouth, firmly taking hold of its jaw. I pulled it close to myself so that it could no longer move, and finally, after minutes of struggle, it submitted.
